Approach

The Ptarmigan Glacier is between Flattop and Notchtop.  Park at Bear Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park and follow the Flattop Summit trail.  After the Summit follow the trail to the North West until you are at the point where the glacier starts.  There are a few entrances and all look good.  The far right looks to be the steepest and most continual but the far left seemed to have more turns though you had to hike a few feet in the middle.  This is a great summer Glacier Ski!

Equipment Needs

Avy gear it the time calls for it and Ice axe if the time calls for it.

Descent

The first section is the steepest and then the line mellows out.  Follow the glacier all the way to the toe.  Once done follow a faint climbers trail to the lake below.  At the lake a a good trail is on the North side, follow this trail by Helene lake and back to the car.
