Approach

Exit for I-70 for Loveland Pass and Loveland Ski Area. Once you exit take an immediate right hand u-turn onto a dirt road that heads back east and runs parallel to I-70. Drive till you reach the metal gate. Boot pack or skin up the road. About 1 mile in you will see the Citadel. Stay low in the drainage following a good trail. Once the trail starts to disappear you need to start traversing up and to the right to gain the large flat bench to the southeast of Citadel's summit. Once you are on the bench, gain the southeast ridge and follow that to the base of the couloir. At the base of the couloir you will see the bulk of the turns you will make below you and you will also see the short steep climb to the top of your run. This is a good time to take out your ice axe since it gets steep and the snow is usually firm if you left early enough. Reach the col between the north and south summits of Citadel. You have time to kill while the slope softens up, so be sure to summit both peaks.

Equipment Needs

Skins and ice axe.

Descent

The descent is very straightforward. Just jump in and ski all the way out the drainage back to the car.
