Arapahoe Basin raises over $10,000 for Colorado Avalanche Information Center

ARAPAHOE BASIN, Colo. – Over the course of two days, Arapahoe Basin Ski Area (A-Basin) raised over $10,000 for the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC). A-Basin’s “Backcountry Preparedness Days,” held February 8 & 9, 2013, included a Companion Rescue Workshop and the 11th Annual Beacon Bowl. All of the proceeds from the two days’ events were donated to the CAIC.

“These events were simply outstanding,” said Alan Henceroth, Arapahoe Basin’s Chief Operating Officer. “I am so impressed by the generosity of our community.”

Last year, the ski area raised approximately $7,600 for the CAIC. This year, A-Basin set a fundraising goal of $10,000, and exceeded it.

“We were extremely pleased with how the weekend went,” said Leigh Hierholzer, Director of Marketing for Arapahoe Basin. “Ten thousand dollars has been a goal of ours for a few years. We couldn’t have done it without our backcountry experts, our ski industry partners, and sponsors who donated items for our raffle and auctions.”

Major sponsors included New Belgium, who donated a cruiser bike for the live auction as well as libations for both days, Ski Logik, Summit Ford, Black Diamond, BCA, Spyder, Ortovox, Wilderness Sports, and the non-profit organization Friends of the CAIC.

“We’re so fortunate to be part of a community that understands the value of an organization like the CAIC, and how it benefits the greater ski and ride culture,” said Adrienne Saia Isaac, Marketing and Communications Manager for the ski area.

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center is the nation’s oldest public avalanche forecast program, and supports four offices across the state of Colorado. In addition to avalanche forecasting and accident investigation, the CAIC contracts with the Colorado Department of Transportation to provide travelers with accurate highway condition information.
