How about a shovel and a probe pole?

And maybe a spare ski basket.

True love is easier to find with a helicopter....

Hacksaw, good call. I was thinking things in addition to your standard avy gear, but that is always in there too.... lets make the list go to 11, but put avy gear at the top :)

even though 11 is louder.

Hi Dobish, I joined like I said I would and will add some Japan beta when it rains next.

As for pack contents, I mostly have what you listed. My roll of wire is copper because it is soft and easy to work with fingers if needed. And I always have one of these, and they work well http://www.blizzardsurvival.com/product.php/100/blizzard-survival-bag

Back when I toured on a splitboard I would also carry 1 foot of bike inner tube and some cable ties. SB bindings are (were) a curse.

These days I often take a Brookes Range rescue sled. I coughed up huge dollars and got the super compact one. Never used it, and too be honest I reckon its best application will be to keep an injured person off the snow if we have to wait 24 hours for a helicopter. Dragging someone in practice rescue is very slow and incredibly hard work, especially in powder. And I am always in powder.

Good thread. Its always nice to get ideas on what to add/remove based on other folk's methods. Mine are similar to everyone else's:

1. Small first aid kit, including a small swiss army knife and lighter
2. Big "emergency" kit (several hand warmers, space blanket, roll of medical tape, large SAM splint)
3. Compass/clinometer
4. Biggest Puffy In the World
5. Thermos of coffee
6. Repair kit (extra heel piece and cable)
7. Headlamp
8. Phone
9. Parachute cord
10. Extra food

Extra stuff depending on where/when:
- GPS and map for long tours, especially when not above tree line
- Stove and fuel when it's really cold and a longish tour
- There is always at least 12' of duct tape on my ski poles
- I've been looking for a dense foam 1"x1'x1' pad to sit on (ideas where to get one for cheap?)

So mine is pretty similar, but I have a couple of different systems.

Lets start at the top of the pack:

Voile Ski Strap, Gels/Gu, Candy Bar
Inside of top pocket: lightweight beanie, multi tool, binding buddy, headlamp, permanent marker, tiblock w/prussik (if there is ropework)

Inside Pack:
Big Mittens (OR Altimitts I thinks), thin primaloft layer, first aid kit (tape, gauze, bandaids, knife, advil, bandaids, triangle bandage)

Outside of pack:
Carabiner, avalung (built in), duct tape on ski poles (both of them)
