The first part of an interview with our Friend and neighbor Erik Wiehenmayer. He discusses some of his more recent adventures, his thoughts on being a full time adventurer, and his techniques for blind backcountry skiing. Erik and I have been friends for a couple of years, and he never ceases to amaze me. He has such a passion for adventure and a contagious enthusiasm with everything that he does.
Yeah, Erik is blind, but he doesn't let that stop him from going out and having fun. In this interview series, we wanted to give you a little bit more insight to what drives him, and the challenges that he faces that you might not even think of. What do his partners do that your partners or mine might not do? What sort of precautions do they take to make sure that they are looking out for Erik, but also themselves? What happens if they are caught in a slide? Would you be prepared to have a blind person searching for you? Does that limit your potential for fun?
There are plenty of interviews about Erik climbing Mt. Everest, but we here at www.backcountrycoalition.com know that his adventures on Everest are only a small part of what he does for adventures! We hope you enjoy the first part of the video, and don't forget to leave comments or questions! This was probably one of the most interesting interviews I have done, and I can tell you that it raised a lot of questions for me!
Enjoy~
