South American is in the southern hemisphere, so their winter is our summer. Many people will travel there in the warmer months in North America to get some turns in on the big peaks. There is an excess of backcountry skiing routes down there, but they are pretty hard to get to.

One of the biggest issues of getting to Chile is reliable transportation once you are down there. if you have access to a vehicle, that is the best way to go!
