The Hestra Vertical Cut Freeride is an outstanding glove. It does not have a gauntlet, rather features an under the jacket cuff set up which is becoming more and more common. The most notable feature of the Vertical Cut is its fit. At first glance the glove seems very flash with its elaborate finger and top of hand padding. For most users, this feature is unnecessary. Skiing trees though it is a nice feature. However, once you put the glove on your hand you will realize why it retails for $149.95. Anyone would be hard pressed to find a glove that fits your hand better. The fingers have very detailed articulation that lends true meaning to the saying, "fits like a glove."

Depending on the color choice, the leather may be different. That is due to the ways the dyes take to the leather. For most colors, the outer material is water proof treated cowhide aniline. The black color is Hestra's impregnated Army Leather-goat leather. Regardless, Hestra's leather is some of the most supple you will put on your hands. One thing, that is of note is the dexterity and unencumbered freedom of movement you will feel in comparison to most other gloves. The glove also features external seems which lend to extra comfort and easier movement of the fingers.

The glove features thermolite insulation. The Vertical Cut Freeride is not an ultra cold weather glove. For those with cold hands this glove is not optimal except for warmer days. For those of us who are fortunate enough to not have cold hands this glove is one of he best choices out there.

The cuff is low profile, Neoprene with a velcro closure. Just make sure that you have sleeves on your jacket that are long enough to fully cover it. Otherwise you can get snow up into your wrists on some of those inevitable falls.

All in all this glove deserves an A+. The comfort and dexterity are virtually unmatched.

I have been using mine for quite a while. Every couple of months I will use the leather balm to help keep them from getting dried out, but overall I am super happy with them. I can climb up, ski down, shoot photos, and even type on my phone with them!
